Shopify Customer Segments Limitations: 27 Filters, a Hard Ceiling of 10 Clauses, and 26 Months of History

The claim that Shopify's native segments only cover purchase data is out of date. As of September 2, 2026, Shopify's help center documents 27 customer segment filters, including on-site browsing events, email engagement, an 11-value rfm_group, and a predicted spend tier. The one hard published ceiling is 10 clauses per segment query — an eleventh clause returns Invalid query: Too many clauses. Klaviyo's documented equivalent is 100 criteria per segment and 1,000 active segments per account, a tenfold difference. This article covers the other undocumented-elsewhere limits — 26 months of event retention starting March 2022 for email and May 2023 for storefront events, 500 IDs per IN list, non-real-time counts — corrects the widespread claim that Shopify caps you at 250 segments, and shows when Klaviyo, Omnisend, Twilio Segment by Littledata, Loyal, or ECPower actually earns its monthly fee.

We Checked 5 Shopify SEO Apps for the Word "Canonical." It Appears Zero Times.

The most repeated Shopify SEO advice online is that /collections/x/products/y creates duplicate content you need to fix. We tested it: Shopify's Dawn and Horizon demo stores both return HTTP 200 on collection-scoped product URLs and emit a canonical pointing to the bare /products/ URL, /collections/all/products/ 301-redirects outright, the word "within" appears zero times in either theme's source, eight live merchant collection pages linked to bare product URLs 100% of the time, and three sitemaps contained zero collection-scoped URLs. Then we read the listings for SearchPie, BOOSTER, Tiny SEO, SEO Manager, and Yoast SEO — the words canonical, noindex, robots, and duplicate content appear zero times across all five. This article explains what SEO apps genuinely change on Shopify, what only theme code can change, and what nobody can change.

Turn On Duties at Checkout and Shopify May Refuse to Sell You the Label — DDP Is Supported for Exactly Four Carriers

Shopify's Help Center lists the carriers that support DDP labels through Shopify's carrier accounts, and there are four: Canada Post (US destinations only), DHL Express, DHL Express Canada, and DHL eCommerce. USPS, UPS, and FedEx are not on it. The next sentence is the one nobody quotes: if you use any other carrier with Shopify's carrier accounts, you cannot buy a label for an order where duties were collected — you buy it externally or refund the order. On top of that, every order with duties calculated carries a transaction fee even when the duty is $0, currently 0.5% under a temporary rate that has been in effect since February 2, 2025, normally 0.85% with Shopify Payments and 1.5% without. Two Shopify Help pages also disagree about what happens when a product has no HS code. Five real duty apps compared, including brand-new first-party apps from UPS and FedEx. Shopify Now Syncs EDI Purchase Orders Natively — From Exactly Two Vendors, and Both Still Bill You Separately

Winter '26 Edition brought EDI purchase orders into the Shopify admin as draft orders. Read the announcement carefully and the scope is narrower than the headline: the sync works with SPS Commerce and Crstl and nobody else, both are paid platforms billed outside Shopify, and SPS's own Shopify page describes the direct-to-Shopify path as Shopify Plus. Meanwhile the entire EDI shelf on the App Store carries ten reviews between three listings, and published prices run from $149/month to $24,000/year. Researched September 2, 2026.

A Retailer Just Sent You an EDI 850. Shopify Has Two Apps That Can Answer It — and One of Them Won't Print a Price

Your first big-box purchase order does not arrive as an email. It arrives as an EDI 850, and the buyer expects an 856 ASN before the truck moves and an 810 invoice after it lands. Nothing in the Shopify admin speaks X12. We searched the US Shopify App Store on September 2, 2026 for every app that handles retailer EDI and found exactly two listings: SPS Commerce, whose pricing card says 'Contact SPS Commerce for full pricing details prior to install' and warns that charges are billed separately from your Shopify invoice, and Crstl at $149/month with 'No Document Fees' printed on the plan. Meanwhile TrueCommerce and Logicbroker both integrate with Shopify and neither one is in the App Store at all.

Shopify Already Shows Estimated Delivery Dates. Just Not Where You Want Them.

Almost every article about Shopify estimated delivery date apps opens with a claim that is factually wrong: that Shopify has no native delivery date. It does — Settings, Shipping and delivery, Estimated delivery dates, with Automated and Manual modes. The real boundary is placement. Native dates render at checkout and after, never on the product page, and the business-day cutoff is hard-coded at 12 pm in the origin's timezone. We mapped the native limits from the Shopify Help Center, checked the one native product-page path (Shop Promise, invite-only, top 1% of shippers), priced five currently listed EDD apps on September 2, 2026, and covered the FTC shipment rule that no listicle in this category mentions.

The Same 1,200 Shopify Event Tickets Cost $99 or $699, Depending on Which App You Picked

Shopify can take money for a ticket today. What it cannot do is issue a unique ticket or check anyone in at the door — Shopify's own guide says you need an app for that, and the POS camera scanner's supported list does not include event tickets. The apps that fill the gap use three incompatible pricing models: per ticket sold, a flat tier with an attendee cap, and a percentage of booking revenue. At 1,200 tickets a month that spread runs from $99 to $699, and the only Built for Shopify app among the six compared is the expensive one at volume. Six real apps compared on what each plan actually meters. Researched September 2, 2026.

Three Shopify Extended Warranty Apps All Say "Free to Install." The Money Flows in Opposite Directions

Extend, SureBright Product Protection, and Anycover Extended Warranty all show the same thing in the price field on the US App Store: free. Underneath, two of them pay you a share of every plan sold and the third charges you a service fee on every plan sold. That is a sign change, not a rounding difference. Also documented here: a public review from May 2024 in which Extend told a merchant it could not work with them because the store did not have $3 million in revenue — a qualification threshold that appears nowhere on the listing; Extend's listing is no longer called product protection at all; and Anycover's US listing lists its interface languages as English, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese and Filipino.
