Shopify Already Has a Browse Abandonment Automation. It Fires One Funnel Stage Later Than the One Omnisend Ships Under That Name

Shopify Messaging ships a Convert abandoned product browse automation on every plan from Basic up, built on the Shopify Flow trigger Customer left online store without making a purchase. It fires on a product view — the same stage Klaviyo calls browse abandonment and Omnisend calls Product Abandonment. Omnisend's Browse Abandonment is one stage earlier and, by its own documentation, captures no product data and offers no return URL. Every email-based option shares the constraint nobody puts in the listing: the visitor must already be identified, which is why a flow with thousands of contacts sends almost nothing. Web push is the one channel that routes around it, at $79/month. 402 apps carry the App Store's Browse abandonment feature tag, including wishlist and review apps. Verified against primary sources on September 12, 2026.

Shopify can hide sold-out variants natively now. The trap is what happens when the last one sells out

Almost every guide to hiding sold-out variants on Shopify still opens with 'there is no native option.' That stopped being true on May 7, 2026, when ProductVariant became a Publishable. You can now unpublish an individual variant per sales channel or catalog from the admin, and Shopify Flow ships free Publish product variant and Unpublish product variant actions that fire off Variant out of stock and Variant back in stock. Shopify's own documentation states the catch: if every variant of a product is unpublished from a channel, the parent product is entirely hidden from that channel until you republish at least one. Native also has no publish date for individual variants, no backfill for variants that were already out of stock, no push-down sorting, and no redirects. The five apps still on the App Store meter that gap on units that don't line up: Camouflage charges by how many sold-out variants it may unpublish (100 to 20,000), Nada charges by active or draft product count, MB Push Down and StockIQ charge by products and collections at once, and StockIQ's real-time updates are a paid add-on on its two cheapest tiers. Shopify's Own Migration Guide Says Apps Are the Only Bulk Path for Orders, Blogs, and Gift Cards

Shopify's Migrate to Shopify page contains a table of six data types and the bulk options available for each. Products and customers get a CSV path. Historical orders, gift cards, blogs, and pages get 'migration apps' and the API — and nothing else. We read that table, then priced the four options merchants actually reach for: Shopify's own free Store Migration app (rated 3.1 across 74 reviews), Matrixify, LitExtension Store Migration, and Cart2Cart. No two of them bill on the same unit — one charges per 30 days with per-job caps, two charge once by entity count, and one won't quote a price outside its estimator. Plus the variant rate limit that every migration guide still quotes at a threshold Shopify raised tenfold. Researched September 7, 2026.

Shopify already auto-applies discount codes from a link. What you're really paying an app for is everything after the click

Search for how to automatically apply a discount code on Shopify and you'll find community threads, vendor how-tos, and an app that hasn't had a review since 2018. The primary sources say something simpler. Every Shopify plan can generate a shareable discount link that applies a code to the customer's next checkout and to any open cart, saves it to the browser until it is removed, and — since July 15, 2025 — combines with codes already in the cart instead of wiping them. Cart permalinks accept a discount parameter too. Since May 21, 2025 the Cart AJAX API takes a discount parameter, and Shopify's Horizon theme ships a cart discount field that is on by default. What native still cannot do is show strikethrough prices on product pages, expire a link-applied code, or stop a leaked code from working. That is the gap the apps meter — on units as different as one private promotion (Abra Promotions), discounted orders influenced (Discount Ninja Promo Engine), a flat $25/month (Checkout Links), $2.99/month (Discount in Cart & Link Banner), and orders per month (KeepCart). Shopify's HS Code Field Has No Auto-Classifier — Six Apps That Fill It Before the EU's July 2026 De Minimis Deadline

Shopify lets you store a Harmonized System code per product, even per destination country since an October 2025 update — but it doesn't generate one. You type a description into a search box, one product at a time, or paste codes you already have into the bulk editor. Six Shopify App Store listings now sell AI-based classification instead: DutyCode, HS Code & Origin Bulk Editor, Primis AI HS Codes, Flash AI HS Classification, HClassify, and Jstars AI HS Code Classifier. All six launched within the last thirteen months, most have one review or none, and one already carries a 1-star rating. Researched September 7, 2026.

Shopify has no low stock alert. Its official answer after Stocky is a Flow template that needs one workflow per supplier

Stocky stopped working on August 31, 2026. On Shopify's own migration page, the replacement for low stock alerting is one line: set up automated low-stock alerts using Shopify Flow. Flow is free and the template exists, but the Send internal email action states you can't use variables to customize the email address, so a per-supplier reorder alert means one hardcoded workflow per supplier — and Shopify's documented way to store a reorder point is a custom metafield definition, not a built-in field. The four alert apps still listed meter you on units that don't compare: at roughly the same price, LSA Low Stock Alert covers 300 products while iAlert covers 10,000 variants. Instant alerts start at $2.99 to $5.99 in three of them and at $19.99 in the fourth. Invy Alerts, which still surfaces in searches for low stock apps, now returns an unavailable page. Shopify Has No Native 'Recently Viewed Products' Feature — What Five Apps Actually Charge, and Which 'Free Plan' Isn't

Dawn and Horizon ship no 'recently viewed products' section, and Shopify's native recommendation engine runs on purchase history and description similarity, not browsing history. We compare five listed apps and find that both apps advertising a 'free plan' restrict it to staff, partner, or trial-plan stores — live stores pay from day one. Researched September 7, 2026.
