Shopify Has No 'Hide Price Until Login' Switch — But Every Lock App Leaves the Price in /products/handle.js, and Only One Keeps You on the Shop App

Shopify's only native gates are Private mode and a B2B-only restriction for dedicated stores. We checked what six hide-price apps actually lock, where prices still leak, which apps disqualify your store from Shop, and what happens when you uninstall them.

Shopify added per-channel pricing in June. The channel most merchants meant — POS — still costs $89 a month

On June 17, 2026, Shopify made channel markets available to all merchants using Markets, so a marketplace channel can finally carry its own prices. That does not answer the question merchants have actually been asking for years, which is how to charge one price in store and another online. Shopify POS is not a channel market. It is a Retail market, and the Help Center states that customizing catalogs for Retail markets requires POS Pro or the Plus plan — $89 per month per retail location by Shopify's own accounting. On POS Lite, the documentation is blunt: retail locations and the online store in the same region must share one catalog. Two apps sell the workaround for $9.99 to $19.99 a month, both using the Cart Transform API, and Shopify's own function docs put hard limits on what that API can do outside Plus, inside POS, and during order edits. Shopify Built Purchase Orders. It Still Won't Email One to Your Supplier.

If you're comparing 'best Shopify purchase order apps' against advice written before mid-2026, you're comparing them against a Shopify that no longer exists. Since June 22, 2026, native purchase orders create linked inventory transfers, carry supplier records, payment terms, supplier currency, supplier SKUs, cost autofill from prior POs, CSV line-item import, barcode entry, and multi-shipment receiving with accept/reject/cancel per line. What the Help Center still documents no path for: emailing a PO to a supplier, saving payment terms as a supplier default, any approval step between Draft and Ordered, a supplier-facing portal, and ordering a product you haven't created in Shopify yet. Six real PO apps compared on what they charge to close those gaps — and two of them meter you by purchase orders per month, which is the denominator nobody discusses. Pricing, ratings, and review counts verified on the Shopify App Store in the en-US locale on September 10, 2026.

Shopify Product Tabs Apps vs. Native Collapsible Rows: When Dawn and Horizon Are Enough, and When Tabs Studio, FOLDER, or Another App Earns Its Fee

Shopify's Dawn theme has a free Collapsible row block, and Horizon has an Accordion block, both of which can pull per-product content from metafields. Here's exactly where the native blocks stop, and a same-axis comparison of six Built for Shopify product tabs apps checked in September 2026.

Shopify gave subscription and returns apps until December 1 to kill the magic link — and the biggest ones have nothing to lose

On June 17, 2026 Shopify published a deadline: effective December 1, 2026, Returns and exchanges apps and Subscription apps with buyer-facing self-service must authenticate customers using the Customer Account API, or risk losing Built for Shopify status. The catch is that the badge is the only enforcement mechanism, and checking every major app in both categories on September 7, 2026 shows the badge is missing from exactly the apps merchants are most likely to be running — Recharge, Skio, Loop Subscriptions, Loop Returns, Return Prime, ReturnGO, and Redo all lack it. Meanwhile Recharge's own documentation states that its passwordless login requires legacy customer accounts, which Shopify deprecated in February 2026. Here is who actually has to change, what your subscribers and returning customers will see, and the one combination that is already broken. All figures retrieved September 7, 2026.

Shopify Turned Off Custom App Creation in the Admin — and Took the Copyable Access Token With It

Since January 1, 2026 you can no longer create a custom app from Settings > Apps > Develop apps. New custom apps live in the Dev Dashboard instead — and Shopify's own documentation says you can't copy an access token from the admin for one. Tokens now come from the client credentials grant, expire in 24 hours, and only work on stores inside the same Shopify organization. Here is exactly what changed, what your existing legacy custom app can still do, the four constraints that break agency and spreadsheet workflows, and three App Store apps — Matrixify, syncX: Data Export Reports PDF, and Mechanic — that cover the jobs merchants built custom apps for. Researched September 7, 2026.

Shopify still can't import orders from a CSV. The four apps that can are priced on four different things

Shopify's admin imports products and customers from CSV, but not orders. The Help Center's own migration table lists only migration apps, the Order API, and the Transaction API for historical orders, and Shopify's free Store Migration app describes itself as moving product and customer data, with no mention of orders. So every order in a spreadsheet — a WooCommerce history, a Kickstarter backer list, a wholesale partner's weekly file — goes in through a third-party app that calls orderCreate. The four apps that do this bill on units that don't line up: Matrixify caps orders per file ($20/month for 1,000, $50/month for 10,000), EZ Importer sells one-time credits per order ($35 for 250 up to $1,105 for 1,000,000), Order's up! charges a flat $7.99 or $19.99/month, and EasyCSV only unlocks order import on its $29/month Business plan. The API itself adds constraints no app can remove: one discount code per order, no automatic discounts, and a five-orders-per-minute cap on trial and development stores. Shopify has no terms and conditions checkbox, and Buy it now skips the one your app adds

Shopify still ships no 'I agree to the terms' checkbox on any plan. Settings → Policies only auto-links your policies in the checkout footer, and neither Dawn nor Horizon has a terms setting in its theme schema. Every cart-page checkbox — theme code or app — works the same way underneath: it writes a cart attribute that lands in the order's Additional details. Shopify's own compatibility page says accelerated checkout buttons 'don't support cart attributes' and names terms and conditions checkboxes as the example, so a Buy it now, Shop Pay or Apple Pay click can walk straight past it. Putting the checkbox inside checkout requires Shopify Plus, and the client-side blocking API is now deprecated in favor of a server-side validation function that does cover express checkouts. We read the listings, help centers and one- and two-star reviews of six App Store apps — TnC: Terms and Conditions Box, RA Term and Condition Checkbox, RT: Terms and Conditions Box, TC Term and Condition Checkbox, Terms and Conditions Check Box and Terms and Conditions checkbox — priced from free to $14.99/month. One vendor states outright that consent time 'cannot be recorded for orders placed via the Buy It Now button.' All figures retrieved September 7, 2026.
