Shopify Has Two Post-Purchase Surfaces, and Survey Apps Run on the Other One — Plus Four Apps That Meter the Same Survey Four Different Ways

Shopify's five built-in attribution models are all click models, so a customer who heard about you on a podcast can only be recorded as direct traffic. That is why post-purchase surveys exist. But Shopify has two separate surfaces with almost the same name: the post-purchase page, which is still in beta, allows only one app store-wide, and never appears for Apple Pay, Klarna, Affirm, Amazon Pay, gift cards, local delivery, or orders under $0.50; and the Thank you and Order status pages, where every survey app in this comparison actually runs, on Basic and up, capped at three app blocks per area. Then the pricing: Fairing charges by monthly orders, Zigpoll by responses, KNO by surveys and questions, and Grapevine charges $25 flat. The cheapest app changes three times as a store grows. Print-on-Demand Apps for Shopify: The Five Cost Variables That Decide Your Margin

Shopify has no native print-on-demand, so every POD app is a separate supplier with its own cost stack. Researched September 2, 2026 on the English Shopify App Store: the same Bella+Canvas 3001, US-fulfilled and sold at $28, lands at $15.73 through Printify's free plan, $16.00 through Printful's, $16.46 on CustomCat Lite and $13.66 on CustomCat Pro — a 10-point margin swing on one identical shirt. CustomCat Pro at $30/month pays for itself at 11 shirts a month; Printify Premium at $39/month needs $118.18 of monthly product spend before its "up to 33%" discount breaks even. Gooten publishes no base costs at all without an account. Includes verbatim reprint and returns policies, US facility counts, and the sales-tax line most margin spreadsheets omit.

Shopify Product Q&A Apps: Shopify Already Answers Product Questions Natively — It Just Never Publishes the Answer, and Every Dedicated Q&A App in the Store Has Zero Reviews

Shopify has no native way for one shopper to ask a public question on a product page and for the next shopper to read the answer. Shop product reviews are purchase-gated and review-only; the Shopify Inbox agent answers product, shipping, returns, and sizing questions but does it inside a private conversation. We priced six apps in the US App Store on September 2, 2026, and found five different billing denominators for the same widget: AI answers, questions per month, a flat fee, catalog pages, and monthly orders. Okendo puts the Q&A Widget on the $119/month Growth plan; Judge.me puts it on the $15/month Awesome plan; the Forever Free and Free tiers of both exclude it. And Google's own QAPage documentation lists a product page where users submit multiple questions as an invalid use case, so no app in this set can give you a Q&A rich result on a PDP.

Shopify Magic Picks Your Product Category, Saving the Product Confirms It — and That Field Sets Your Sales Tax Rate

Shopify's Help Center says an AI-suggested product category becomes final on save: after you save your product, any unedited suggestions are confirmed. The same field decides your Shopify Tax rate, your return-reason analytics, sales channel compatibility, and whether Managed Markets clears the product. Then the attributes it unlocks — the ones Shopify says make products more discoverable on your site — are listed as unsupported in Shopify's own Search and Discovery app. Four filter and bulk-edit apps compared, metering on GMV, product count, active products, and rows per task. Researched September 2, 2026.

Shopify's Quantity Price Breaks Are B2B-Only — and the Apps Bill You on Three Different Denominators

Shopify does have native volume pricing, but it lives inside B2B catalogs and it qualifies per variant — a customer ordering 10 blue and 10 gray hats hits neither 20-unit break. There is no native quantity break for DTC at all, and Buy X get Y never auto-adds the discounted item to the cart. We priced five real volume discount apps from the US App Store on September 2, 2026 and found they meter on three incompatible denominators: your store's total order count, revenue the app claims it generated, and a flat fee. The denominator, not the sticker price, decides which app is cheapest for you — and it can invert the ranking completely between a 40-order store and a 1,200-order store.

Shopify Names Eight Reasons Your Payout Doesn't Match Your Sales. That List Is the Entire Accounting App Category — and Intuit's Own Connector Is Free

Shopify's help center lists eight things that make a Shopify Payments payout smaller than the orders behind it: processing fees, refunds, chargebacks, reserves, negative balances, payout holds, currency conversion, taxes on fees, plus a named set of adjustments including chargeback_protection and shopify_collective_debit. None of them is an order, which is why syncing orders into QuickBooks never reconciles to the bank line. Intuit's own connector is free to install and carries 3,221 reviews at 4.7. Xero shipped its own free app on March 24, 2026. So what are A2X at $29 to $115, MyWorks at up to $89, and Synder at $65 to $599 actually selling? Six apps, four different billing denominators, and the features that turn out to be gated behind a plan tier rather than absent. Researched September 2, 2026.

Shopify Has No Referral Program — and the Cheapest App Plan Stops Being Cheapest at $572 a Month

Shopify ships no customer referral program. What it ships is Collabs, which is creator affiliate marketing and is not accepting new creator signups. The apps that fill the gap meter on three incompatible denominators — a percentage of referral revenue, your total monthly order count, or a flat feature tier — and the plan that looks cheapest on the listing page stops being cheapest at a point you can calculate. On Referral Candy that point is $571.43 of monthly referral revenue, which at a $60 average order is about ten referral orders. On Smile the meter counts every order in your store, not the referred ones. We priced six real referral apps from the US App Store on September 2, 2026 and worked out every crossover.

Shopify Rental Apps Meter Three Different Things — and Picking the Wrong Unit Costs More Than Picking the Wrong App

Shopify has no rental object at all — the App Store files rentals as a subtype of Event booking, meaning time slots rather than stock. Every rental app therefore keeps its own availability calendar, and each one bills against a different unit: Product Rentals Pro and FlexCon meter rentals per month, BTA meters bookings per month, and IzyRent meters products and calendar days instead of volume. At 400 rentals a month across 5 SKUs, IzyRent Pro costs $24.99 and Product Rentals Pro costs $89.95 for the same work. Also documented: charging for damage protection is gated to the $89.95 tier.
