Shopify Already Canonicalizes Your Filter URLs. Then Its Own robots.txt Stops Google From Reading It.

Top-ranking articles disagree about whether Shopify puts a canonical tag on filtered collection pages. We measured it on four live US stores: it does, and it points to the clean collection URL, stripping every filter and sort_by parameter while preserving page. We also pulled the raw /robots.txt from four stores. The default rules block sort_by and any URL containing two filter parameters, but leave a single filter parameter fully crawlable — which means one filter selection is crawlable and two are not, for the same collection. Worse, Google's own documentation says not to use robots.txt for canonicalization, because a disallowed URL never gets its canonical read. Plus the persistent claim that robots.txt.liquid is Shopify Plus only, which the June 21, 2021 changelog contradicts. Six apps checked for what they can actually change. The Faire Shopify App Is Free to Install. Here Is What It Actually Costs and What Actually Syncs

Faire: Sell Wholesale is Built for Shopify, rated 4.6 from 418 reviews, and free to install — and none of that describes the cost. Faire's own help center puts North American brands at 15% commission plus a $10 new customer fee, 0% on Faire Direct orders you source yourself, and a 3% payout fee if you take next-day ACH instead of Net 30. On the sync side, order sync fires only on acceptance, cannot be undone, only reaches back 90 days manually, and hands you an anonymized retailer email unless the buyer opts in. Every rule here comes from Faire's own documentation. Researched September 2, 2026.

Shopify Doesn't Score POS, B2B, or Subscription Renewal Orders for Fraud — and Shopify Protect Skips Four More Categories

Shopify ships three separate free fraud tools and merchants treat them as one. They aren't. Fraud analysis gives no risk recommendation at all on POS, B2B, subscription renewal, free, or gift-card-paid orders. Shopify Protect covers only Shop Pay orders, only for US-located merchants with a US Shopify Payments account, only for orders that are entirely physical and shipped — and changing a shipping address after checkout voids the coverage. Fraud Control's blocking rules require Shopify Payments, and the app sits at 2.2 stars. Eight real fraud and chargeback apps compared on the only axis that decides anything: who actually pays when the chargeback lands. Researched September 2, 2026.

Shopify Fulfillment Network Is a Broker Now — and Shopify's Own Two Pages Don't List the Same Partners

The Shopify Fulfillment Network app no longer means Flexport. It is a directory with a recommendation tool that hands you off to a 3PL, and Shopify's help center lists seven partner apps while the App Store listing names four companies — the two lists overlap on exactly two names. Also documented: the app is limited to businesses fulfilling out of the United States, Flexport is not an app at all, your 3PL's warehouses may create physical nexus for US sales tax, and Shopify's own first-party app for this sits at 3.5 stars across four reviews. Shopify Geolocation Apps After the Sunset: Native Redirection Exists Now, and the Free Tier of Every App We Priced Is a Banner, Not a Redirect

Shopify's own Geolocation app was shut down and uninstalled from stores on March 24, 2025, and most articles still say the platform can only recommend. It can't only recommend anymore. Online Store > Preferences now has an Automatic redirection setting that redirects customers by country and by browser language, and Shopify excludes known search engine crawlers from it. That changes what you should buy an app for. We priced six geolocation and country blocker apps in the US App Store on September 2, 2026, and the pattern is consistent: the consent banner is what the free tier gives you, and the forced redirect is the upgrade. Selecty puts 'Automatic markets redirects' on the $11.99 plan while the recommendations banner is free. Geos labels its $19 plan feature 'Automatic redirect without consent.' On the blocking side, Blockify and Blocky both request Edit Shopify Functions (cart and checkout validations) in their Data access sections, which tells you the block reaches checkout and not only the browser.

Shopify Has No Gift Registry — and the Apps That Add One Bill by 'Active Registries,' a Unit None of Them Defines

A wedding registry is a stranger buying a product for someone else and shipping it to a third address, with the whole list updating so two guests don't buy the same blender. Nothing in the Shopify admin does any part of that. We priced five real gift registry apps on the US Shopify App Store on September 2, 2026 and found the same 25-registry capacity sold for exactly $15 by three different developers — then found the price of 250 registries ranges from $29 flat to $99 a month depending on whether the app meters at all. Address masking, the feature that keeps a registrant's home address away from gift givers, appears on exactly one listing, on its $99 tier.

Why HSA/FSA Cards Decline on Your Shopify Store, and What the Three Payment Apps Actually Change

An HSA card is a Visa. Your Shopify checkout takes Visa. So why does it decline? Because a 2007 IRS notice requires issuers to decline health cards at any merchant without a healthcare MCC that has not implemented an IIAS — a rule your payment processor cannot opt into for you. Shopify has no native HSA/FSA support, and the free apps you can install from the App Store are not the payment path. Truemed, Sika Health, and Flex compared on what each one actually routes: eligibility classification, letters of medical necessity, split-tender carts, payouts outside Shopify Payments, and the seven-day capture window that voids orders. Shopify Instagram Feed Apps: You're Paying for Meta's API Tier, Not the Gallery

Every Shopify Instagram feed app puts the same two things behind its paid tiers: hashtag and mention feeds, and how often the feed refreshes. That is not a pricing choice — it maps onto Meta's own API structure. Hashtag Search is unavailable in the Instagram Login setup and requires the Facebook Login configuration, a linked Facebook Page, and App Review. We priced three real apps from the US App Store on September 2, 2026: refresh interval alone ranges from every 24 hours on a free plan to every 20 minutes at $98.99/month. And because Meta's long-lived tokens last 60 days, a feed that stops updating usually fails silently rather than showing an error.
